Revolutionizing Waste: Globally Transforming the Plastic and Sustainable Energy Problem
(It's What You Don't See)
About Us
We are a Minority Business Enterprise that is developing and discovering new technology-driven solutions for managing waste, wastewater, and improving soil quality.
Our aim is to support Zero Waste and carbon reduction by using our proprietary technologies and natural processes.
Our goal is to greatly reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills, and we also aim to create facilities that actually help municipalities meet carbon neutrally goals. Simple Methods to better our lives,
Mechanical & Biological.
Plastic Processing
We have a patented process that will enable us to extract 99% of the plastic waste including Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET or PETE), High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE), Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC), Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE), Polypropylene (PP), Polystyrene (PS or Styrofoam) and Other (includes Acrylic, Polycarbonate, Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene, etc.
This patented process produces an aggregate we call “Balkrete”. The process modifies the segregated plastics, which allows the product to be used as an engineered lightweight concrete aggregate for use in the construction industry. Our Balkrete aggregate can be produced by size, shape, density and weight for specific construction applications. Balkrete is a LEED Compliant Building Material. Our process sequesters the carbon in the plastic in the construction material. This carbon sequestration allows our customers to earn revenue in the form of carbon credits (voluntary and/or mandatory) as they are approved.
Our process, by not burning plastics, delivers positive environmental and economic benefits to our clients. Balkrete improves the thermal efficiency of concrete by up to 300% which lowers the heating and air conditioning energy costs. Balkrete also offers significant construction and transportation fuel and labor savings by reducing typical aggregate weights by up to 66% and finished concrete weights as much as 40%. Balkrete is also a substitute for expanded shales which is a clinkering process which is geographically restricted.
Every ton of plastic converted to “Balkrete” equates to 2.7 tons of carbon removed. This makes the procedure carbon negative. 77% of carbon of municipal solid waste is derived from plastic waste. That creates Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative credits which currently are a State incentive and worth $5.51 a cu yd/ $14.88 per ton. This procedure is REC qualified. There are two possible stages to this, one is to build a smaller plant that just focusses on the plastics, metals and paper and a larger plant that would add an anaerobic digester and produce Renewable Natural Gas as well.
Municipal Recovery Facilities
If the larger plant can be built the thing that makes Iceberg Sustainable’ s system unique is that it can process all of the waste material being delivered to a landfill. Using AI systems, we extract items that cannot be processed or recycled such as batteries and electronics first. Next, we capture and recycle the ferrous, non-ferrous metal, the BCA (i.e. aluminium cans), Cardboard (OCC) and wastepaper, we fractionate the waste plastics and charred glass from the waste stream, upcycling it to a light weight Modified Polymer aggregate we call “Balkrete for hardened Cementous ready mix’s, pre-cast and block.
Each AI-based Municipal Recovery Facility separates and sizes the waste, to convert it to renewable energy, while upcycling the other valuable non-biogenic components of Solid Waste. The upcycling and the balance of waste; Organic/putrescible waste is diverted to horizontal Flow Anaerobic Digestion (a commercially proven method, currently in operation in California) these processes, a microbial-based conversion to Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) for parasitic energy to drive onsite Combined Heat and Power (CHP), while overages get sold in the renewable energy markets, the solid and liquid digestate (soil conditioner) offtakes in addition will be sold in the local soil conditioning markets. Additional benefits include this being a RINs qualifying method and perhaps most beneficially, it is Low CARBON, w/ Methane Capture (RNG).
The number of locations that the company can operate is scalable to a large number of municipalities throughout the US and the World. Also, the net result of utilizing our process is that the amount of waste that will need to go into a landfill is reduced to near zero of the current volume. The process also eliminates incineration, reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 50%+ and provides substantial savings to the municipality utilizing this service.
